Hopkins Elks House Committee

Many members know of the House Committee but do you really know what they are charged with doing for the lodge? Contrary to popular belief, they aren't
just a cooking team. They do fill in when needed to supplement the volunteer cooking efforts. However, they play a very important role in the
management of the club portion of the lodge.
There are two facets to the Hopkins Elks:
- Lodge: Encompasses the building, the officers and their installation, members including new member initiations, state and national responsibilities, as well as the
official duties of secretary, treasurer and conducting regular meetings. The Lodge is always managed by the Trustees.
- Club: Includes the bar, the kitchen and running the various special events (e.g. Raspberry Festival, Ribfest) sponsored by the lodge
There are three entities that may be charged with the responsibility of managing the Club. It is up to the members which entity will ultimately hold the responsibility in a given year. The three entities include:
- Trustees
- Officers
- House Committee
Prior to this year, the Club was being managed by the Trustees. A resolution was passed several months ago changing the responsibility back to the House Committee.

House Committee Responsibilities
The House Committee is responsible for the following activities within the Club:
- Set the annual budget for the Club. Budget is approved on the floor by the members.
- Set up cooking teams for Sunday breakfast and Thursday night Steak Fry. Cook if needed.
- Set prices for the meals based on proposals from the Club Manager.
- Identify and support events sponsored by the Lodge. Assist in coordination and work them as needed.
- Oversee functions related to the bar and kitchen including termination of employees when appropriate.
|
House Committee Members
The House Committee members are appointed by the Exalted Ruler. The House Committee for 2009-2010 is a great blend of new and seasoned members. They include:
- Craig Johnson (chair)
- Dave Rahm
- Guy Saffell
- DeeDee Noll
- Mike Owens

Many of those participating in the House Committee choose to do so to become more active in the lodge and to meet new people. It's a great way to get involved!
