How to Get Involved

Q: How do I get involved with the various activities and events within the lodge?
A: There are many opportunities to get involved with the lodge. Page 6 of this newsletter lists the various lodge positions, committees and major events sponsored by the lodge.

Lodge Positions: If you enjoy the ceremonial aspects of the Elks and/or wish to have more say in how the lodge is run, volunteer for one of the lodge positions. To find out more information about the lodge positions, contact Jill Lawrence the ER or Bob Oakes, the Leading Knight.

Committees: There are several committees that support lodge operations such as the Membership Committee, Public Relations Committee and Indoctrination to name a few. There are also committees that support Elks programs such as the Hoop Shoot, Veterans and Youth Camp. These committees require less time than the lodge positions yet contribute greatly to the overall running of the lodge and its programs. If you’d like to participate on one of the committees, contact the chair of the committee listed in the February 2010 Hopline on page 6.

Events: If your time is short or you prefer greater flexibility in the level of commitment, there are several major events throughout the year that require volunteers to assist in the planning of the event as well as help the day of the event. The Raspberry Festival, Rib Cook Off and ENF Fundraiser are several of the events that always need help. Contact the House Committee to find out how to participate in the planning and/or sign up at the lodge when the event posts the sign up for volunteers.

Cooking: If you like to cook, there are many opportunities ranging from cooking teams for Sunday Breakfast, Thursday Steak Fry or Wednesday’s Golden Chefs. There are also events during the year such as the Raspberry Festival that require cooking skills to man the grills etc. If you’d like to start a cooking team or get your feet wet by working with an existing team, you should contact the House Committee or attend one of their meetings. They can line you up with the appropriate cooking team or event coordinator.

To contact any of the people listed, you can call or stop by the lodge and obtain their contact information from the membership directory.

The lodge relies on its members to volunteer their time and effort to the many worthwhile charities, events and causes. Thank you to all who have volunteered this past year and made it one of our best ever.
