Lodge Event Signup

Q: Why do I have to sign up for events? What’s the big deal if I don’t make it?
A: Signing up for events such as the Mystery Theater Dinners, New Member Initiation Dinners, Officer Installation Dinners, Easter Brunch Buffets and so on is the best way for those cooking for the event to gauge the amount of food to purchase and cook.

Our lodge is not a restaurant in the traditional sense of the word. Most restaurants serve the same menu day after day. If they don’t use steaks for dinner tonight they simply use them for the next night’s dinner. Because the vast majority of Elks events are one time events, we cannot simply carry over the leftovers to be used the following day. Therefore, for each event the planners try to obtain a fairly accurate estimate of the number attending so that the appropriate amount of food is purchased. If we purchase too much food, we try to re-use as much as we can but much of it has to be thrown away and that not only wastes food but also costs the club money.

For events such as the Mystery Theater Play/Dinner, if you sign up and then don’t show up, it’s also a waste of a seat. There are only so many seats that can be “sold” for the plays as there is limited seating in the dining room. If you sign up to attend and then don’t show up, the club loses the money it would have received from your ticket, it has more food than is necessary and it takes away a seat from someone else who might have attended but was unable to if the event was sold out.

We all understand that there are times when plans change and things come up that prevent you from attending. If that happens, please call the lodge and let us know that you won’t be attending and we can adjust accordingly. We appreciate the heads up.
