| Elks Youth Camp |
The Minnesota Elks Youth Camp is a FREE co-ed camp for
deserving youth of Minnesota, ages nine through thirteen. Most campers are
referred to local Elks Lodges through adults who know the child's family.
Persons knowing young people who otherwise would not have such an opportunity
are urged to contact our lodge to apply for a spot at the camp.
The Minnesota Elks web site is the best source of information relating to the Youth Camp. Check it out at http://www.mnelks.org/Content/YouthCamp_Overview.asp.
The Hopkins Lodge sent 31 campers (17 boys, 14 girls) to the camp in 2008 and 23 kids in 2009. This year, the Hopkins Lodge is sending 21 kids to camp. Prepare for this year's Youth Camp by reaching out to nearby schools and community programs to identify kids who might benefit from the experience.
There aren't hard and fast guidelines as to what kids can attend other than the age group of 9-13 years old. The goal is to find kids who are possibly at risk and provide them with a
positive experience and keep them on the right track. The camp is not set up to support children with mental or physical disabilities.
However, kids coming from single parent homes, families in crisis or similar situations will benefit greatly from the experience.
