With our Gratitude Grant we wanted to provide an impact across several different fronts so we split up the grant money amongst several great initiatives.
Minnesota Military Family Foundation
We donated $500 to the Minnesota Military Family Foundation (MMFF) as well as participated in their annual golf tournament in May. It was a long rainy day for the golfers but all for a great cause. The MMFF seeks funds to financially support deployed Minnesota military personnel, their spouses and children with grants during times of extraordinary financial hardship
Youth Bowling We donated $500 to our local youth bowling league. The money goes towards scholarships for young bowlers who participate in a local bowling league. Bowling benefits youth in a variety of ways: It can enhance hand-eye coordination skills, develop balance when delivering the ball, develop patience when waiting for her/his turn to bowl as well as build a sense of teamwork and how important she/he is to the team. The scholarship money earned will help a young bowler achieve his/her educational goals.
Adopt A Troop The Hopkins Elks have been sending care packages to deployed troops overseas for many years now. We used $500 to purchase items desired by those serving in far away places. Crossword puzzles, Ziploc bags, cookies, snack crackers, magazines and many personal care items are some of the many things we send quarterly to the troops.
Minnesota Special Olympics
The Hopkins Lodge in partnership with Minneapolis Lodge #44 hosted the state Elks golf tournament with all the proceeds going to the Minnesota Special Olympics. Through a combination of grant money and money raised through events before, during and after the event we were able to raise $2,675 for the Minnesota Special Olympics.
