Welcome Home Program
As part of a national effort to help end veteran homelessness, the Hopkins Elks Lodge is working with local and state organizations to provide Welcome Home Kits to homeless veterans moving into new housing. The Kits provide the veterans with a jump start in furnishing a new place to live. Here is a link to a downloadable list. The Kit contains roughly 50 items including the following items and many more:
Bedroom/Living Room Items
• Pillows • Sheets / blanket • Comforter • Hangers • Clock Radio • Two casual chairs • Floor Lamp Bathroom Items • Towels • Wash Clothes • Shower Curtain • Cleaning Supplies • Toiletries |
Kitchen Items
• Dishes • Silverware • Glassware • Knife Set • Pots / Pans • Paper Products • Kitchen Utensils • Microwave • Trash can |
Elks members shop for, deliver and set up the contents of the kit and spend time with the veteran. The VA Community Resource and Referral Center (CRRC) works with homeless veterans to find permanent housing and then contact us to work with the veteran when housing is found. The kits are funded from the Elks National Veterans Service Commission, our Hopkins Lodge as well as member donations. If you are interested in volunteering and/or donating to this program, please contact us at [email protected] or at 612-615-8387.
